GUIDELINES for ADMISSION

WIS serves the educational needs of foreign and national students and uses English as the language of instruction.   We are open to children of all nationalities, although competency in English does become increasing important as the student progresses.

Applications will be considered for children who have turned 2.1/2 years of age by September 1st in the year of entry.

At ages two and a half, three and four, WIS will apply open admission to all local candidates with screening administered for evaluative measures during the first two years of school progress.  At ages five and up, developmentally appropriate screenings will be administered to determine enrolment feasibility.   Factors such as first language development, social and emotional development, previous school progress reports, teacher observation and parent comments will be used along with other pertinent class information, such as class size and construction, to determine entrance into that given class at WIS.   Conditional admission may be granted by the Principal based on requirements of additional English or academic subject tutoring.

In Primary School (Years 1 to 5), children may be admitted regardless of the English skills – although we may suggest other local schools that provide services in other languages.

WIS does not have any special facilities for students with severe learning, physical or emotional disabilities.   We are happy to direct parents of such special needs to more suitable facilities.

Admission decisions for Early Years to Year 5 are made by the Principal.
